MyAmber App: Bridging the Data Gap in Women’s Healthcare

Endometriosis affects millions of people around the world, yet there’s still so much we don’t know about it. While significant strides have been made in women’s health research, there’s still a huge data gap that needs to be addressed. That’s where the MyAmber App comes in—a groundbreaking tool designed to help close this gap and support those living with endometriosis.

What is the MyAmber App?

The MyAmber App is the first of its kind, created specifically for tracking endometriosis symptoms. It’s more than just an app; it’s a comprehensive tool for understanding how endometriosis impacts your daily life and for managing your health more effectively.

Here’s what the MyAmber App can do for you:

  • Track Your Symptoms: Monitor your symptoms throughout your menstrual cycle. The app helps you record and review both subjective feelings (how you feel) and objective data (what you observe), so you can see how your symptoms change over time.
  • Generate Monthly Reports: Receive detailed health reports each month. These reports summarise your symptoms, identify patterns, and highlight any triggers or flare-ups. This can help you see what’s working and what isn’t, allowing you to make informed adjustments to your lifestyle and treatment.
  • Improve Life Planning: By recognising patterns in your symptoms, you can plan your activities better and prepare for potential flare-ups. This means you can adjust your plans according to your health, leading to a more manageable and enjoyable life.
  • Evaluate Device Efficacy: If you’re using the MyAmber wearable device, the app will also track its effectiveness. You can provide feedback on how well the device is working for you, helping us to understand its impact and improve it over time.

Closing the Data Gap

Women’s health research, particularly in conditions like endometriosis, is significantly underfunded. For example, in 2022, only $16 million was allocated to endometriosis research in the US—just 0.038% of the National Institutes of Health’s budget. In contrast, research into other conditions, such as diabetes, receives a far higher funding allocation.

Moreover, existing research often doesn’t fully represent the diverse experiences of all affected individuals. Studies frequently miss out on varying demographic groups, including those from different ages, ethnicities, and educational backgrounds. This can lead to gaps in understanding and support for these groups.

The MyAmber App aims to address these issues by providing real-time data that paints a clearer picture of how endometriosis affects different people. By collecting information from a diverse user base, we hope to identify key trends and improve our understanding of the condition.

Why It Matters

The more we know about how endometriosis impacts different individuals, the better we can tailor support and treatment. The MyAmber App helps gather essential data that could lead to improved research outcomes and better healthcare strategies.

In addition, by offering a tool that is accessible and easy to use, the app helps bridge the gap in healthcare knowledge and support. It’s a step towards more inclusive and comprehensive research, ultimately leading to better care and resources for everyone affected by endometriosis.
